Tater Thots!
This week we’re following up last week’s episode on healing with an episode on coping. The difference might be subtle, but here we are, bringing the high emotion content, hoping that it worms its way into your earholes. We start with friend breakups and femininity, migrate to conflict and corny men, and reveal our favorite coping mechanisms, the things we actually do to… get through the day, the week, the year, our lives! Check it out below!
Everything is garbage, and as such, every week—news-wise—contains multitudes (yes I’m rolling my eyes!). But this week’s definitive Thotty news: Coming soon, (October 1st), OnlyFans will be a thing of the past. Aight, who I gotta blow??
“In order to ensure the long-term sustainability of the platform, and to continue to host an inclusive community of creators and fans, we must evolve our content guidelines,” OnlyFans said in a statement. —CNBC
The irony of this statement. Long-term sustainability? When was the last time *you* logged into Tumblr?
We’ve been here before, we all know this song, yadda yadda yadda, ain’t nobody gonna still be on OnlyFans once the sex workers move. Existence is not the same as relevance.
A lesson I firmly believe a certain TERFy writer will learn, soon enough.
I’ll be honest— we all know I have a few prudish tendencies. I didn’t even really explore porn (much!) until I’d graduated college. I can theoretically respect the idea that a platform might want to evolve the fundamental nature of what they’re promoting. We all grow and change, yadda yadda yadda.
To be honest, at first I blamed Rachel Dolezhal.
But what’s happening here is a sad sack capitalistic trope that only works to further disenfranchise sex workers. Once again, we see a platform promote sex work, literally build its brand on the backs of sex workers (and fronts, and between their legs, and….well if you don’t know, go explore—you still got time!), and then, seemingly without warning, decide to ban the very content that built its wealth.
This is nothing new. Capitalism seeks to build wealth on the backs of collectives who aren’t supposed to access said wealth, and then routinely puts them out to pasture. In this case, banks (BANKS!!!!) have apparently become the arbiters of morality, having put pressure upon the platform to clean up their act.
I can literally see the money walking away.
What really gets my goat about this decision is that OnlyFans seemed to be the most ethical way to support sex workers because the majority of what subscribers pay goes to them directly. We all know that during the pandemic, sex workers turned, almost en masse, to OnlyFans, and lets not pretend their content wasn’t damn near a public service during lockdown. And this is how they’re rewarded??
FUCK THE BANKS!
One thing’s for sure: they will migrate elsewhere. OnlyFans is far from the singular platform doing what they do, but I’m pretty sure they are the biggest. For now. But they’re quaking in their boots!
In the meantime, I want all of you, if you’re able, to hop onto your freak twitter accounts, find a few sex workers who really do it for you, and support them on whatever platform they’re using! Some will migrate, and some are hanging up their nipple clamps for good!
Let’s be honest — it’s the least we can do!
XOXO, Denne Michele
*extra* delectable content
1. In case you’re thinking about becoming a consistent 3rd (highly recommend!), remember that even post OnlyFans, your exploits may be recorded. On camera, or in the mind of an incredibly thorough lesbian who archives your adventures in a chart. Peep the original “chart” above, and then an allegedly legitimate celebrity chart here!
2. My sister Thots pushed me down the wormhole of Harry Potter Fan Fiction, and I believe this list is the definitive list of best Harry Potter fan fictions, though I haven’t read them all because I have a life! If HP is merely a fan fiction jumping off point, as it is for me, check out additional troves of fan fiction: *NSYNC, Destiny’s Child, Twilight, and Gilmore Girls Revival.

3. Check out this friendship breakup story from The Pulse, in which an ugly friend breakup is recounted, and then breaks down different types of friendships and offers tips on when to save the friendship and when to end it.
4. RIP to Gladys Hardy, a cranky old white woman, and quite possibly, the best thing Ellen has ever done. When Gladys called in to the Ellen Show back in 2006 to advise her to move a stage plant, lest Ellen continue to look like Alfalfa, she charmed the world when she admitted her affection for imbibing. This moment inspired my own on-air admission of my affection for the booze.
5. I still feel like the very best book I’ve ever read on grief is Joan Didion’s The Year of Magical Thinking, so just adding that in for the sake of anyone who needs it.
6. And in our dessert section we recommended two poetry books in the episode and we want to link them here! We’re starting with Negotiations by Destiny O. Birdsong, and we’re settling in with We Are Owed by Ariana Brown.
7. Just in case you haven’t seen it, I’ve got to link you to Lizzo’s iconic Rumors video with Cardi B, just because Lizzo is the only juice I need to get through this hurricane!

Lastly, this season’s summer craze, The White Lotus, has ended. As much as we miss Jennifer Coolidge and Natasha Rothwell, there were many, many, controversial opinions about the show in the F4T group text — mostly about which character we might be. So I’m bringing it to all of you, dearest, darlingest Thotties. QUIZ TIME: Which White Lotus character are you?!?
